WIGI to Participate in Girl Scouts’ GIRLTOPIA

by Amy Allison

WIGI is excited to announce their participation in Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles’s (GSGLA) first GIRLTOPIA event, held in the same hall at the Convention Center as E3.   This event helps kick off Girl Scouts’ 100 year anniversary and will be held every two years moving forward.

Girltopia encourages girls of all ages to explore Leadership; Arts & Culture; Business Smarts; Environment & Outdoor Adventure; Science, Technology, Engineering & Math; and Wellness & Healthy Living via interactive exhibits, entertainment, speakers, workshops and other activities.  Girltopia will also introduce contemporary Girl Scouting to our growing girl population, and reinforce Girl Scouts’ mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.

At the event on Saturday, October 29, 2011, WIGI Vice President, Amy Allison, will lead a workshop called “Play Like a Girl – Exploration of Game Design”. WIGI CEO Belinda Van Sickle, WIGI CFO Krissie Franco, and several other WIGI volunteers will be on hand to help with the workshop.

Additionally, the WIGI members will be on hand at the Leadership Café to answer Girl Scout’s questions about our career paths.

We are pleased to announce that THQ has come on as WIGI’s official sponsor for the event.  They will be highlighting their uDraw tablet and the games associated with the product.  They will also be highlighting their female employees in a video at the booth and have a WIGI creation station for Girl Scouts to draw their interpretation of the upcoming video game badge.
